List of the Best Restaurants in the World for 2022

The list of the 50 Best Restaurants in the World has been released by CNN again. Continuing last year’s glory, restaurants in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, are back in first place.

Last year, this European country managed to rank first and second through Noma and Geranium restaurants. This year, Noma’s position was replaced by Geranium

Spain and Asia

Quoting from cravebarfoodjoyntil.com The second place is occupied by the Central restaurant in Lima, Peru. This restaurant was also voted the best restaurant in South America. This is the second time the restaurant managed by Chef Virgilio Martínez and Pía León has been selected as the best in South America. Last year, Central was ranked 4th on the list of the best restaurants in the world.

Central takes advantage of the country’s biodiversity to serve the best menu. Not only serving delicious dishes, Central also focuses on environmental sustainability by regularly recycling, composting and having a vegetable garden with more than 100 species of plants.

Meanwhile, another restaurant in Peru, Maido, which was ranked 7th last year, has now dropped to 11th. The third and fourth places this year were won by two restaurants from Spain, namely Disfrutar in Barcelona and Diverxo in Madrid. Restaurant from Mexico, Pujol, ranks 5th, as well as lined up as the best restaurant in North America.

Unfortunately, no restaurant in Indonesia, not even Asia, can make it into the Top 10. Last year, Asia was still represented by a restaurant from Singapore, Odette, which was in 8th place. This year, the highest rating for an Asian country was achieved by a Japanese restaurant, Den. The restaurant which is located in Tokyo is automatically selected as the best restaurant in Asia.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards themselves are considered equivalent to the Oscars in the film world. In 2020, this award event was stopped due to the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak. However, in 2021, it was held again and two restaurants at the top of the list are in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The number one spot goes to perhaps the most famous name in gastronomy: Noma. This three-Michelin-star restaurant owned by Danish chef René Redzepi first opened in Copenhagen’s Christianshavn neighborhood in 2003. It first took the top spot in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants award in 2010.

New rules introduced at the 2019 awards mean that first place finishers are not allowed to make the following year’s best shortlist. However, Noma closed in 2016 and reopened in Copenhagen two years later, so it is considered a new restaurant.

Taking to the stage at the Flanders Convention and Convention Center in Antwerp, Belgium, Redzepi recalled the life-changing experience of first winning the award in 2010. «After this victory, all dreams seem to be open. It also gives us the opportunity to be a part of the transformation of the food culture of the entire region,» said Redzepi.
